摘要：A reproducing apparatus for a disc in which data recorded on an optical disc (1)are read out by an optical pickup (7) and reproduced is disclosed. Before start ofreproduction, it is determined if the disc (1) loaded into the apparatus is a data disc onwhich information data such as letter or character data or picture data are recorded, oran audio disc on which audio signals are recorded, and the playback mode is
automatically selected as a function of the type of the optical disc (1) loaded into theapparatus. At the start time of the reproducing operation from the disc (1), the typediscriminating data recorded on the disc (1) are read out and, as a function of thecontents of the type discriminating data, switching is made automatically between thedata reproducing operation and the audio signal reproducing operation, while the type ofthe optical disc (1) is displayed (27) on the display section (51, 54) on the basis of the typediscriminating data.
